Healthy Hydroponics InnoTech: Expanding into New Markets

As Healthy Hydroponics InnoTech grows, we started to look into markets around the world to provide our services to growers who need them. In November 2022, Healthy Hydroponics InnoTech was accepted into the Canadian Technology Accelerator in Mexico, along with eleven other companies. Mexico is the seventh largest supplier of agri-food products and one of the largest greenhouse markets in the world. Healthy Hydroponics is excited to introduce its services to this new, growing market and work with growers in Mexico to reduce crop loss and increase food safety.

The twelve companies were selected to be a part of the AgTech cohort for the Canadian Technology Accelerator in Mexico.

Our first visit to Mexico

Healthy Hydroponics InnoTech first visited Mexico in May 2022 to attend the GreenTech Americas show in Querétaro. Healthy Hydroponics InnoTech participated in the trade show alongside Rancho Nexo. During our time there, we realized the potential that Healthy Hydroponics could have in this market. Our team also had the opportunity to meet with the trade commissioner for the Canadian Technology Accelerator and, at that point, decided to explore the opportunity of the Mexican market further. In August 2022, the Canadian Technology Accelerator released the application for their second AgTech cohort in Mexico. Our team felt that if accepted, this would be the perfect opportunity to learn more about the market in Mexico and the exact needs of growers.

What is the Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA)?

The CTA is a program that was created by Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service. It offers programming that can aid high-growth and high-potential Canadian technology startups to scale up by connecting them with export, investment and partnership opportunities in global markets, such as Mexico. The CTA program is available in other countries and also has other cohorts that do not focus on agtech. During the six-month program, participants are provided with support ranging from in-market working space, one-on-one mentorship to aid with market validation and introductions to potential partners, clients and investors.

How are we planning on using this opportunity to expand?

Healthy Hydroponics Innotech is dedicated to providing pathogen monitoring services to hydroponic farms and growers to enhance the prediction of crop diseases and food safety. We plan on doing the same in Mexico by first determining the needs of growers by doing market research and meeting with growers to learn from their current IPM strategies and see where we can fill in gaps. We then plan to expand into this market by offering our services as a solution or by working with growers to develop custom solutions to their problems.
